Cait Whitson who teaches most of our classes has been involved in the decorative arts since 1985. She trained in London at Leonard Pardon’s School for Specialist Decoration and then latterly at the late Bill Holgate’s school. Cait continues to regularly takes classes to improve her skills and most recently has had the chance to learn from Gert-Jan Nijsse and Christian Martincourt and is looking forward to a class with Matts Carlson in the near future.
Cait has taught at art colleges, technical colleges and at private faux finishing schools both here and internationally.
Cait and Gibson are working professionals which means the teaching is practical, commercial and realistic. They teach small groups in a way that enables students to grow in their ability after they have left the class.
Cait is a trained Annie Sloan workshop trainer

This class teaches you how to paint and cover a pre-approved chair with a simple drop in seat pad. The cost includes tuition from a wonderful traditional upholsterer on recovering a seat pad that is in reasonable condition i.e. perhaps it needs some padding out with horsehair. If the pad is in poor condition and needs extra work then there is a surcharge that will cover the extra materials.
You will paint your chair using Chalk Paint™ and waxes and you will have access to gilding materials, gilt waxes, stencils and whatever else you need to complete your chair in a finish that you want.
Cost - £65
You must submit an image of your chair seat pad (top and bottom) to be assessed - if you need extra work done to it to refurbish it we will allocate extra time and you may need to pay a surcharge
You will need to bring fabric suitable for upholstery. We carry a small amount of the Annie Sloan fabric range in stock but if you would like to use Annie Sloan fabric to match the lovely paints you will use it may be a good idea to come in and see the swatches and order your material
